Linda Howard
for County Commission Seat # 3
Mecosta County—Linda Howard of Remus has announced her candidacy for the #3 District, which includes Millbrook, Wheatland and Morton townships. This district is currently served by Charles Lutteran, who is retiring.
Howard, a life-long Republican, has experience representing the people of this area in roles from local leader to governor's appointee. Voters elected her a township official and, confident in her abilities, reelected her twice. When it comes to developing the future of our communities, Linda has answered the call to help in many ways, past and present.
As a member of the Mecosta County Chamber of Commerce for over 25 years, she was on the Board of Directors for 8 years, helped to separate the Mecosta County Convention and Visitor's Bureau into a major tourism entity, and has been on numerous Chamber committees.
She is currently on the Mecosta County Economic Development Board, and Director of the Remus Area Downtown Development Authority.
Howard has been active in Michigan Farm Bureau at many levels, from County President in 1997 .to developing legislative policy at the state and national committee level of Farm Bureau.
She represented several counties as a member on the MSU Extension State Council, which sets policy and works with legislators on behalf of Michigan 4-H, Extension and the Research Experiment Stations in Michigan. As a board member of this council, she had the opportunity to go to Washington, DC after the Sept 11 tragedy, to discuss and lobby for agriculture to receive Homeland Security funding for Michigan laboratories and farms.
Linda, a Ferris State University alumni, and her husband, Dar, own a farm and also an agribusiness, Dar's Barn, Inc., which is located east of Remus and employs seven people. They have raised 4 children and are an active Christian family.
"Community service, business owner, and a well-rounded leadership background, will provide the skills that are needed to represent the district on the issues that affect us every day such as keeping and growing jobs in Mecosta County, the environment, and keeping taxes and the governmental bureaucracy at the lowest level possible."
