Remus Area Historical Society

Minutes of May 27, 2003, Meeting

Wheatland Township Hall

Present:  Linda Howard, Pam Burke, Char Lenon

Old Business:

Char presented rough draft of brochure for comments and suggestions.

The constitution and bylaws were also reviewed and edited.  The three persons present decided to sign incorporation papers and each put in $10 to cover initial cost.

Once we have finals and original copies of legal paperwork, we will get a bank box for safekeeping.

New Business:

Peach (Pam Burke) suggested we send copy of finished brochure to area “founding families” inviting them to bring artifacts for the Heritage Days weekend and/or sit with the display for a two hour session.  She will do a draft of a covering letter with progress/status of the group to date.  Char will mail it out.

Linda wants to be sure to invite Alice Welling to bring her collection of one room schoolhouses.

Peach will get letter to Char and Linda will develop list of names for Char for mailing brochure in next few weeks.

Peach stated that we should have a way to recognize donors with at least an acknowledgment letter for the time being.

Peach also asked if the township might donate some of our initial costs and Linda thought they might. Linda agreed to check with them.  If we could get $1000 from sources like Township, Heritage Days, Lions, etc. and another $500+ from individuals during Heritage Days we may have enough to begin our 501(c)3 filing.

Char will check on getting our next meeting date in the Community Calendar of the Pioneer East.

Linda will check with Mike Gingrich re: bank building lights, water, air, for July weekend and Char will get with Sandy Maxwell re: cleaning and with Becky for setting up the display.

We need to let Becky know that those that might respond to the letter/request will need to drop by items to her at the Library for inclusion in the display by July 7 and that she will also need a schedule for those who volunteer to sit with the display for two hour sessions.

We also need to let Sandy know to have a calendar ready to schedule oral histories/interviews on that weekend.

We will invite Ed Walch to the next meeting along with Larry Schaftner.

Peach suggested and Linda will ask merchants at DDA meeting to put something about the history or originality of their building in their windows for Heritage Days.

Linda suggested that at a later date we do a calendar for print with various old pictures of the area on each month to sell for monies.  We decided a deadline before Christmas would be good.

Meeting adjourned 8:45.  Next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 26, 6:00 p.m., at Countryside Pizza in hope of more attendance.
