Linda opened meeting with introductions followed by acceptance of minutes and treasury report.
Don passed around a draft of the booklet on one room schoolhouses in the area and that it has gone to print.
Pam explained that Mr. Simms of Big Rapids (a former employee of Blanchard Telephone) would like to help design the communications display as he has several items to loan. She explained we would probably have a ribbon cutting possibly in October and one for a school display possibly in November. The grant report form for the Fred grant must be completed in October.
A booklet on the Bell System progression, a telephone story, was passed around. A possible future display might be farms/barns. Jann reminded us that Val Hein has telephones in the attic to loan for the communications display. Pam explained other items also needed i.e. a description of bell ringing. Ken will check for a copy of the mail delivery wagon picture.
After talking with Jeanette Fleury, Char explained that since funding for the “One Book” project did not go through for 09 Jeanette would be willing to give a presentation to our group at the museum regarding either authors from the area (such as Jager, Stadfeld) or Growing Up in a Small Town, based on a book by Tim Bazzett from Reed City. Char mentioned to Jeanette that June might be a good time. Discussion followed and it was mentioned that some of the Pitts kids are relatives of Curt Stadfeld’s and that Russell Kirk has several ghost books.
Linda talked about a group possibly renting the downstairs for $25. Pam mentioned that Sherry has been in contact with the accountant regarding the financial statement for 08.
Next meeting scheduled for February 11th at 5:00 p.m.
