Dear Community, Businesses, Organizations and Families:
On Saturday, November 10th our Remus Area Historical Society volunteers held a Vietnam Veteran Tribute at the Wheatland Township Hall in Remus to long last show our gratitude for their service. We recognized dozens of area veterans from Mecosta County and western Isabella County with numerous displays, maps, presentations, dinner and ceremonies. There were 180 people in attendance and 73 community members received commemoration pins and certificates. We’d like to express our sincere gratitude to all of those whose support made the event held in cooperation with the 50th Anniversary Vietnam War Commemoration possible: Wheatland Township; WCMU Public Broadcasting arranging for use of the Letters Home panels and for recommending veteran, author and presenter Tim Keenan; Diane Diehm and Mid-Michigan Honor Flight; Mecosta County Community Foundation an affiliate of Fremont Area Community Foundation; Albert Schiffer Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2335 and Auxiliary; Gerald Pitts American Legion Post 473 and Auxiliary; Thompson Blackmer VFW Post 4106 and Auxiliary; the Ken Todd family; Old Settlers Reunion Website; Sylvester Community Church; Tri County Electric, Betsy Todd, Lori Todd, Terri Todd, and Quilts of Valor. Thank you to: Margaret Hough Gandy, Auto Value/Auto Parts; Chippewa Lake/Mecosta Lions and Lion volunteers; Community Dental Centers – Big Rapids; Conley’s Bakery; Ed’s Garage Sales; Fate’s Food Market; Hometown Health Foods; Isabella Bank; Jo Jo’s Pizza; Leprino’s; King’s Trading Post; Mercantile Bank; Sweeney Quick n’ Clean; Remus Lumber; Remus Repair; Remus Tavern; and The Hot Spot. Wheatland Church of Christ, The Remus Area Historical Society, Inc., a nonprofit organization made up of volunteers who manage the Remus Museum, was formed to celebrate the heritage and preserve the cultural and historical resources. Thank you to all the families that contributed photos, letters, memorabilia and uniforms to use in a permanent museum display. Together we were able to shine a light on our own neighbors for their service and sacrifice.
