Remus Area Historical Society Announcements

Dear Community friends of Remus Area Historical Society (Remus Museum), 

 

TWO ANNOUNCEMENTS! 


1.  The Declaration of Independence, the founding document of the United States, was signed July 4, 1776.  As the 250th anniversary of American independence quickly approaches on July 6, 2026, Michigan partners are preparing for the commemoration. America250MI is Michigan’s official committee for the commemoration of the history of our state and its relation to the development of our nation. https://www.america250mi.org/   America250MI wishes to  build: Awareness - of significant people, places, and events, Promote local 250th anniversary commemorative events, by preserving historic sites, enhancing heritage tourism, and offering educational programming, and is issuing Support Grants - that help interpret, preserve, and explore Michigan's rich and diverse history, foster collaboration, and enhance accessibility in all communities. 


Remus Area Historical Society is facilitating a planning committee, applying for an America250MI grant to rehabilitate the historic Little River School house at School Section Lake Veterans Park, offer events and educational materials that shine a light on Mecosta County drawing residents and tourists, and raising local dollars as match. Estimated costs: the one room schoolhouse needs eight windows replaced at approximately $8000 plus other minor repairs; and promotional and educational material for activities at about $3500.  The grant is due Jan 15, 2026; awards announced 3.15.2026; Project will occur - 4.1.2026 to End date 12.30.26. 


We invite your organization to collaborate with us by:  

  • Naming a representative to join our local America250MI planning committee.   

  • Name _________________Contact info/email____________________________.  

  • Sending us a Commitment/pledge letter by Jan.1, 2025 that introduces your group, and your mission/ role, and the amount of $ you can donate (toward renovations or activities), or, describe your own project (what it is, where, how many will it reach) that we can add to our overall calendar. If awarded, allow us to use your logo on printed materials or media as a partner. 

  • The grant project will be used to preserve/conserve the 1905 Little River School house, further explore Michigan history, and help toward planning, educational programs for children and families, supplies, signage, and publications.

2. Each year, Lerner Financial employees select local non-profit organizations to be recognized for the incredible work they do in the community. Remus Area Historical Society is one of the eleven organizations nominated for a 2025 Lerner Financial grant! The top two organizations receiving the most votes will be awarded grants. Community members may cast one vote per day from November 28, 2025, through December 31, 2025, by one of these methods:
