Accessibility Statement for the Remus.org Website

Official Statement of the Remus Community (Township, Library, Historical Society, and DDA)

Our Commitment

The Remus Community is committed to ensuring that our digital services are accessible to all residents, regardless of ability. We believe that every citizen has a right to live with dignity, equality, comfort, and independence. We strive to ensure that Remus.org is easy to use and accessible for people with disabilities, in alignment with our mission to serve the entire public.

Conformance Status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. Remus.org is currently undergoing remediation to conform with WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards. These standards are maintained in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title II requirements for state and local government entities.

Accessibility Features on Remus.org

To ensure an inclusive experience, we have implemented the following features:

  • Alternative Text: All informative images include descriptive "Alt Text" for screen-reader compatibility.

  • Color Contrast: We maintain high-contrast ratios between text and backgrounds to assist users with low vision.

  • Keyboard Navigation: The site is designed to be navigated entirely by keyboard for those who cannot use a mouse.

  • Logical Hierarchy: Pages are structured with proper heading tags (H1-H6) to ensure assistive technologies can interpret content logic.

Archived Content & Pre-existing Documents

Pursuant to 28 CFR § 35.201, certain archived web content and pre-existing conventional electronic documents (such as PDFs, board minutes, and event flyers created prior to our formal remediation deadline) are retained exclusively for historical reference, research, or recordkeeping.

While these specific materials may not meet current WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards, Remus.org is committed to providing accessible versions of any archived document upon request. If you require an accessible version of a historical record, please contact our Accessibility Coordinator.

Limitations and Alternatives

Despite our best efforts, we recognize that some content may still be in the process of being updated or is provided by third parties. We are currently working to address:

  1. Third-Party Content: We utilize certain integrations (such as maps or social media feeds) that are outside of our direct technical control.

  2. User-Generated Graphics: We are working with local event organizers to ensure all future graphics are accompanied by text-based equivalents.
